The precious life of Lucille Osgood McCarley is honored with her passing on Monday, June 21, 2010. Our dearest mother has joined our father William L. McCarley, Jr. who passed away on January 9, 2000; her grandson, Matthew Royce McCarley who she cared for daily and went to Heaven on June 5, 1984; and our beloved brother, Gary Brant McCarley who died not quite one year ago on August 27, 2009.
Lucille Osgood McCarley was born on December 11, 1928 in San Marcos, Texas to Samuel and Salvatrice Osgood, the sixth of seven children. She grew up in San Marcos and also near Uhland on the Osgood family property. She attended and graduated from San Marcos Baptist Academy, but remained a Catholic instilling that faith in her children. She married William L. McCarley, Jr. of Dallas and then moved to Austin in 1950. She leaves behind a loving legacy and the memory of her passion for life.
She was also known for her love of roses, flamingos, the color pink and her red lipstick. She worked as a homemaker most of her life, worked as a secretary for the Austin State Hospital and later at Dillard’s. She also helped her husband with his own business, Bill’s Auto Service in the old Alamo Hotel Garage, then later on 6th Street next to the Roy Butler dealership in Austin.
Lucille McCarley had five children herself: Sherry McCarley Wyatt, Carole Jean McCarley, Linda McCarley Lackey, Royce Craig McCarley – all surviving; and our late brother, Gary Brant McCarley. She is also preceded in death by her three brothers, Charles Osgood, Samuel Osgood, and George Osgood; and her sister, Josephine Osgood Bannister. She is also survived by her brother, John Kenneth Osgood and her sister, Hannah Osgood Williams; son-in-law, Darrel Dewayne Wyatt; daughter-in-law, Carlene Riedel McCarley; grandsons, William Curtis Wyatt and Torin Brant McCarley; great grandchildren, Cherish Destiny Wyatt, Taylor McKenzie Wyatt and Dusty Ryan Wyatt; her step-grandchildren, Becky Wyatt Johnson and her husband, Jim Ed Johnson, and two children, Harlee and Hadley; and Dewanna Wyatt Meares, and her husband Greg Meares, and two children, Kristen and Kylee; and her many nieces and nephews who all loved their “Aunt Lucille”.
Our mother lived her life for her family through hard times and fun and prosperous times. She will leave a void in our lives, but she will also leave us filled with many memories and the love she so generously gave us. After her seven year battle with cancer, our hope and prayers are that our mother will have no more worry or pain in Heaven as our dear Lord’s promise to her is fulfilled.
