Buda Bits

Let’s think back sixteen years ago on the Sunday night of July 10, 1994. That was the night that four buildings on Main Street in Buda’s historic downtown were destroyed by fire. Everything was a total loss when the fire, which began in the attic of a glass blowing shop that was located on the corner of block four, gutted that building as well as the businesses of the Prairie Schooner, Poor Richard and Co. and the Buda Women’s Boutique.
Today as you drive downtown on Main Street, you find a pretty brick building on the corner at 220 Main, which is home to longtime local dentist Don Taylor and his staff at Buda Dental Professionals. Next door is Hope Sanford’s Cimarron Rose Antiques & Collectibles, Yellow Sweater Knitting Parlor and Nonna Gina’s Italian Restaurant.
We are proud of our downtown district and all the businesses that make Buda what it is now.

The Buda Chamber of Commerce was first place winner in the best website design in the state of Texas in its category. The award was handed out in Nacogdoches on June 29th. Texas Best Chambers/Josiesque Designs designed and developed the website.
Also taking a first place in the Downtown Buda Merchants’ Group’s first annual 4th of July Window/Facade Display Contest was A&E Signs on Railroad Street. Coming in with a second place was the corner shops at Main and RR 967 consisting of the Hays Free Press, Old Main Street Station and Sue Ellen’s. In the same block was the third place winner, Genesis Hair Design. Thanks to all the businesses that participated and gave the downtown area a nice show of patriotism.

Kylie Severance celebrated her fourth birthday on Monday, July 5, with her many little friends at The Jumpy Place.
Birthday wishes go out to Chris Dunkin and Gerald (Yogi) Gage on July 9; Mattie Labenski on July 11; Dell Burns and Jim Stavlo on July 12; Roger Myers on July 13; Susie Puryear on July 14.

The free movie in Buda City Park on Friday, July 9th will be “Where the Wild Things Are” starting at 9 p.m.

Rumor around is that the Main Street Café business has been sold… more to come.
