August is finally here and it’s time, once again, for Market Days so this Saturday, folks will be grooving and shopping in City Square Park with music from Ranch Road 12 kicking off the festivities at 9 a.m. followed by Blake & Fallon rounding out the lunch hour. This month Market Days is sponsoring a “Back to School School Supply Drive” so pick up some extra supplies and bring them down to the square and do your part in helping local youngsters get off to a good start this school year.
And heads up, school starts in less than three weeks so you need to get back into the habit of slowing way down and hanging up your dang cell phone while you’re driving through town. Luckily, though, it looks like the city is going to have the detour from that suicidal section of sidewalk on Burleson completed by the time our kiddos start walking back to school.
Imagine my surprise when I walked out of the Free Press last Sunday night and saw downtown hopping. I sat out on the front porch, grinning, taking it all in. Someone had evidently forgotten to tell the folks at Hitter’s Bar and Grill that they roll up the sidewalks and turn out the lights downtown for the weekend on Friday night at ten… Happy one year anniversary to the folks serving up the best burger and fries and coldest beer in Old Town.
And, on a very cool note at the other end of the block, it seems our illustrious Bordeaux’s received a coveted 100 percent rating from the County Health Department’s annual inspection last week. Perfect scores are extremely rare but it doesn’t surprise me.
The place is stellar, from the management, to the wizards in the kitchen, to the charming and obliging wait staff. Congrats Larsen and Kasey. Thanks for sticking it out with us. I know that it was kind of dicey there for a while. You really make downtown come alive after dark.
