Vermell “Mel” Kyser, slipped into the arms of Jesus on August 12, 2010 at the age of 66. His family, friends, pastor and Hospice family surrounded him.
He was a born again believer and would tell everyone that Jesus Christ was his hope. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kyle for 27 years. Mel taught English and Journalism at Hays High School for over 19 years and he was very active in the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.
His father, Vermell Kyser, Sr. and brother, Jimmy Kyser, preceded him in death.
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Karen Williams Kyser of Kyle; two children, son Jason Kyser of Kyle and his wife, Alicen and daughter, Elizabeth Lipich of Kyle and her husband, Gary; mother, Virginia Kyser of Austin; sister, Shirley Judd of Austin; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many more family and friends.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Loukas, Dr. Dziuk, nurse, Mary and staff members, Ellen and Robyn at Texas Oncology. They loved us and served us with medical expertise. Susie Kana, nurse and family friend, walked with Mel throughout this journey with cancer – Thank you.
Visitation was held Tuesday, August 17 at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, August 18, at the First Baptist Church of Kyle. Family burial followed at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be given to First Baptist Church of Kyle, P. O. Box 247, Kyle, TX 78640.
