Reporter Brad Rollins has been named managing editor of the Hays Free Press, taking over the position from long-time staff member Jen Biundo.

Biundo will continue to report for the Hays Free Press on a part-time basis, covering feature stories and the city of Buda, while she attends the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, working towards a master’s degree in Public Affairs. She started at the Free Press in 2003.

Rollins has been in the newspaper business for many years. In 2001, at the age of 19, he founded his own publication, the Kilgore Star. He was also editor of his college papers, The Shorthorn at University of Texas at Arlington and The Flare at Kilgore College. He has been a reporter for the Longview News Journal and the San Marcos Daily Record.

Rollins is also editor and publisher of The San Marcos Mercury internet newspaper. He began reporting for the Hays Free Press in 2009. The staff change is effective this week.
