Odds & Ends

A few sprinkles on the wind shield indicates there is moisture in the air, but I know that the cotton farmers would just as soon have a couple of weeks of dry weather. The fields that have been defoliated look like fields of snow and the farmers are busy with the harvest. The cornfields look barren with the harvest gone and the stalks shredded.
Does that mean it’s almost Harvest Festival time? Well yes, but remember the Harvest Festival for St. John Lutheran Church of Uhland has been rescheduled for October 23 (not to be held on October 2). A sign-up sheet for items needed has been placed in back of the church. Items are needed for the meal, country store, bake sale, children games, etc. and of course help is always needed in the concessions mentioned above.

The chicken fry supper was a success and all who attended commented on the delicious chicken and the good variety of side dishes that members and guests enjoyed as they also enjoyed the fellowship. Don’t forget church school has started, as has adult bible study at St. John Lutheran Church.
There has also been a change in the Women’s Guild of St. John Lutheran Church of Uhland meeting date for September. They will meet on Sept. 11 for lunch at the rec center. Bring a favorite covered dish and join the members for last minute plans for the Harvest Festival.

Opa and Oma enjoyed a visit with Raney and Cooper Moore this past week. They are busy building a place for their pigs on the farm and they took a break while the adults got more lumber and supplies. Good luck boys and parents in your venture.
