Open houses offered
Hays High School offers its annual “Howdy Hays” Open House next Monday, September 13. Parents receive their student’s schedule at 6:10 p.m. and a short general session follows in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Lehman High School also holds its Open House the same evening, starting with a 6:30 p.m. meeting with administrators in the cafeteria, followed by a brief bell schedule to visit their students’ classes. Dahlstrom Middle School’s Open House is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, September 13, as well, starting at 5 p.m.
Lehman needs your votes
The Lehman High School Band is one of three finalists in the annual K-EYE TV Marching Band Challenge. The Lobos’ performance will air this Sunday, September 12, at 10:30 a.m. and again at 11 p.m. Vote by logging onto www.weareaustin.com and clicking on the Omnibank Marching Band Challenge icon. Votes may be cast once every 60 minutes until the contest ends at noon, Tuesday, September 14. Cash donations and band products are at stake, so help those Lobos out.
Hays needs votes, too
It’s a different contest, but the Hays High School Band needs your votes, too. The Reb Band is competing in the Austin American-Statesman’s Battle of the Bands, pitted against the Anderson High School band. Vote as often as you want until this Friday, Sept. 10, at http://www.statesman.com/sports/highschool/battleofthebands/.
Lobos offer The Hobbit
Lehman High School features a community theatre play offering of The Hobbit this Friday through Sunday, September 10-12 at the Lehman High School Theater. The Friday and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m. and a final Sunday matinee is offered at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students, children and senior citizens.
New elementary dedications set
The public is cordially invited to the dedication of Hays CISD’s newest campuses, Carpenter Hill Elementary and Ralph Pfluger Elementary, Friday, September 17. The Pfluger dedication is set for 8 a.m. and the Carpenter Hill dedication is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
Hairspray auditions soon
Representing “40 Assets” Item #17 (Young person spends three or more hours per week in lessons or practice in music, theater or arts.), auditions are being held on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 4-8 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, for this year’s school musical, Hairspray. Hays CISD students and staff are welcome to audition and should be prepared to sing a short excerpt from the musical. Copies of the songs are available at the PAC by calling 268-8443.
