On Center

Boy, they weren’t kidding about the squeaky wheel. It wasn’t longer than 48 hours after I went on my rant about the city’s websites last week that Kyle Parks and Rec sent me a link to their new guide and it is actually pretty cool. Not that I had anything to do with it, but my timing was good. Looks like fall is their season with all kinds of activities on the horizon so, I’ll keep you posted. But you really ought to check it out in the mean time www.cityofkyle.com/parks/eguide/fall2010/.
I also heard from the Kyle Community Library and they now have September information up on their site as well. The library continues its Wednesday story times at 10:30 a.m. and noon and hosts a bilingual story time at 10:30 a.m. every Friday. This week’s theme is the letter “L” with next week bringing stories of “Autumn.” And remind your 7-11 year olds that they are still “Gaming” every Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. Although the computer classes are fi lled, it looks like you can join the folks at the library for book club or citizenship classes on Thursdays. Check out their website for times and details www. kylelibrary.com.

And while you’re checking out websites, head on over to www.haysfreepress.com and click on the calendar icon. We’ve started to amp up the listings and you would be amazed at all the cool stuff going on in the area. You just need to get into the habit of checking it out as you make your plans for the week and weekend. Let us know if you hear of anything fun going on and we’ll add it to the list. Thankfully, we’re not in noman’s- land anymore.

Speaking of which, it looks like we’ve got district-wide auditions for the musical “Hairspray” on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 4-8 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. The catch? Everyone (students and faculty alike) should be prepared to sing a short excerpt from the musical so get on over to the PAC this week, 268-8443, pick up a copy of the songs and get ready to belt one out.

Finally, please take note that I put the wrong date for Councilmember Pickett’s Town Hall Meeting in the calendar last week. It is actually Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at Kyle City Hall. There’s also a council meeting scheduled for next Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. Ironically, although the city’s on-line home page looks pretty current on its listings, their calendar information ends in Sept. of 2009. Hopefully I’m the only one looking.
