Valery Maercklein, Public Affairs Specialist, from the Social Security Administration in Austin spent some time at the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center last Thursday. Good information was given out to the seniors. Thanks to Shirley Malone of Buda’s Edwards Jones for arranging the presentation. Donnie Stevens took home the trophy as first place winner in the “42” tournament last Friday at the Onion Creek Senior Citizens Center. Pat German was second, Harry Weide third, Bill Burrell fourth, Rita Durham fifth, Cecil Clark sixth and Evelyn Hamlin took seventh place. There was good food, fun and everyone is looking forward to the next tournament.

Just when it looked like the few oak trees would all be saved on the property where the O’Reilly’s Auto Shop is under construction one has been plowed down. Even though it was a small oak, it takes time to grow one that size. Lets hope they plant another tree on the site.

The dedication of the new Pfluger Elementary School and Carpenter Hill Elementary School will be Friday morning, Sept. 17. The celebration for Pfluger, which is located in the Shadow Creek subdivision, will begin at 8 a.m. The dedication for Carpenter Hill, which is located on RR 967, across from Hays CISD Beacon Hill facility, will start at 9:30 a.m. Parking for the Carpenter Hill ceremony will be available behind the school and shuttles between Southern Hills Church of Christ and the school will be available before and after the ceremony. The public is invited to attend.

The Hays High School Class of 2000 will celebrate their ten year reunion on Sept. 24 and 25. The celebration starts off with the Hays vs. Lehman football game Friday night, followed by a gathering at Little Woodrow’s in South Park Meadows. On Saturday there will be a family meet and greet from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hays High School Baseball Field. Finally Saturday night from 8 until midnight the Rebels will meet at Cool River Café in Austin. Artists of the South Corridor are exhibiting paintings at the Scarbrough Building at 101 West 6th Street in Austin. Artists selected to display are: Sharon Bibbee, Jane Fier, Kay Hughes, Clara Newby and Marilyn Rodriguez. The exhibit will be available through Sept. 26.

Thanks to the Buda Lions Club for giving out free American flags last Saturday for Patriot’s Day.
