Check It Out
by KATHY LUCKETT
There are times during the summer that the Buda Public Library resembles a country club with a maximum member age of sixteen. The librarians offer such an inspiring summer reading program for preschoolers and school age kids that the building is full of small people in bright yellow t-shirts, exploring the shelves and carefully maintaining their reading logs.
Now that all those younger folks are back in school, the library is once again a calm, quiet place for adults. Sure, there are still story times and all that after school homework, but the racks have returned as haunts for lots of grown-ups looking for a gripping mystery, a compelling biography, or an out-of-this-world sci-fi thriller. Couples headed out on an anticipated road trip investigate the audio book selections. The computers are being used by people of all ages, writing up a resume in search of employment or looking for good deal on a car loan.
Ah, yes. Peace reigns again. It’s the closest thing I know to Happy Hour.
So mark your calendars now for the Saturday, October 23rd luncheon with author Vannetta Chapman. Chapman will showcase and sign her book “A Simple Amish Christmas.” The luncheon will feature dishes from scrumptious Amish recipes. Tickets are on sale now for $15 at the Buda Library.
