Vernon (Whimp) Wimberley, 90, passed away Saturday, August 4 at his home in Manchaca. He was born to Harvey and Ettie Wimberley on January 30, 1922 in Austin.
Whimp served with the Austin Fire Department for 33 years and retired as Assistant Training Chief.
Whimp loved to travel across the country with his family, especially to places like Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Being a lifelong resident of Austin, he had a love for the Texas Longhorns especially football and baseball.
Whimp was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ettie Wimberley and his daughter, Vicki Lynn Wimberley-Kailing. Whimp is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Bennie Wimberley; son, Ricki and wife Dee Anna Wimberley, granddaughters Anna, Jordan and Erin; sister-in-law Iva Rue Montgomery, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, August 8 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, Austin with graveside services following at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
