STAFF REPORT
When Motif Furniture Outlet opened in Kyle in 2005, Steven Lora, Motif’s president, said he and his business partner chose the location at the intersection of Interstate 35 and Brent Boulevard because of the city’s growing population and its central location close to Austin and the outlets of San Marcos.
Now the store remains boarded up and unattended since closing its doors in June. The store unexpectedly closed, reportedly leaving customers with undelivered orders.
Last week, the Austin Business Journal reported that the company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, allowing the company to liquidate its assets. Several items of furniture are still in the showroom.
The Austin Better Business Bureau has an alert about Motif posted on its website.
“If you have an unresolved dispute with this company you may wish to seek legal advice,” the BBB suggests.
The BBB has received 32 complaints against Motif in the past 12 months. Complaints range from problems with products and services to delivery issues.
The BBB said it has not yet received a response from the business about the allegations.
Lora could not be reached for comment.
