SUBMITTED REPORT
The Hays County Commissioners Court recently proclaimed October as “Turkeys Tackling Hunger Month” and asks that residents consider donating to the Hays County Food Bank, which provides food to help end hunger throughout the county. In October and November the Food Bank focuses on raising funds to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for those in need, and for the ongoing effort of feeding hungry people in Hays County. The food bank solicits corporate and individual donors to help with the cause. The Food Bank provided 2,400 families – almost 10,000 people – with items for Thanksgiving Dinner in 2011 and expects to feed at least the same number this year.
Last year, Negley Elementary School student Zachary Collins raised $3,000 for the Food Bank. He told the Commissioners Court that his goal this year is $5,000 and invited others to help him reach his goal of giving to the community.
