COUEY
Hazel Couey, formerly of Woodcreek, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2013, at her home in Pear-
land, Texas. Hazel lived a wonderful 94 years, saying her own personal goodbyes to family and friends before her passing.
In 1969, Hazel married Richard Couey and they resided in Wimberley for over 20 years. She had many friends there, was a member of Wimberley Baptist, and played golf at Woodcreek on a weekly basis. After Dick’s passing in 1997, she moved back to Houston to be close to family.
Hazel was a wonderful, popular, and inspiring woman with an irresistible kindness. She loved to play dominoes and card games, particularly when she won. Above all else, Hazel was a faithful servant to the Lord her entire life, leading Bible studies and Sunday School classes wherever she resided. Her Christian faith inspired all who knew her, including those in Houston, Wimberley, and more recently in Pearland, where she lived with her daughter, Kay, who provided loving care for her in her final six years.
Going on before Hazel were her parents Branton A. Durdern and Bessie Durden, sister Doris Brennan, brother Branton, Jr., and husband, Richard Couey. Cherishing her memory are her children: Dr. Marcus Haggard and wife, Rosanne, of League City, TX; Michael A. Haggard and wife, Joyce, of Collierville, TN; Rusty Haggard and wife, Cherie, of Kyle; and Kay Haggard of Pearland, TX. She also leaves behind stepson, Dr. Richard Couey and wife, Elray, of Waco. Grandchildren include Brett Haggard, Scott Haggard, Amy Haggard, Alison Malone, Dr. Ann Haggard, Jake Aziz, Clay Aziz, and Adam Aziz. Great-grandchildren include Madison Haggard, Halle Malone, and Hunter Malone. Her extended family in West Texas and in Georgia will also remember her as a beautifully and wonderfully unique person.
