An 18-year-old Hays High School student is behind bars and charged with failure to stop and render aid, a third-degree felony, in connection to a 2013 case that left a Kyle man dead.
Nathanael Eddleman, listed as Nathaniel Eddleman in public records, was arrested Thursday by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, according to Hays County Jail records. Eddleman’s warrant was issued Wednesday for his apparent involvement with an auto-pedestrian accident last April that left Phillip Duran, 37, dead near a well-traveled intersection in Kyle.
Duran set out on a late-night run on April 27 last year, and police said he never returned home.
During the course of his run, authorities say a vehicle struck Duran and his body was found near the southwest corner of FM 1626 and Kohler’s Crossing the following day.
Car parts found at the scene led police to Eddleman’s vehicle, which was found parked at Hays High School on April 29 last year.
The Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a forensic analysis on the evidence found at the scene, including the vehicle parts. Once that report was finalized for the Kyle Police Department, the matter was referred to the Hays County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Hays County records show Eddleman appeared before a Grand Jury on May 21. He could face up to 10 years in jail and a $10,000 fine, if found guilty of the third-degree felony.
Eddleman’s attorney was not available for comment, and had not returned a call by press time.
The Hays County District Clerk’s Office had not answered a request for Eddleman’s indictment records, including the probable cause affidavit used to secure a warrant by 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Jail records show Eddleman is being held at the Hays County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
