Investigators will shutdown a section of Interstate Highway 35 (I-35) early Tuesday morning in Kyle to continue examining the scene of a fatal collision.
Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said the southbound lanes of I-35 will be closed from about 1-3 a.m. Tuesday near the 217-mile marker, the area where a motorcyclist died in a three-vehicle accident Aug. 22.
Authorities said Jonathian W. Driskill, 28, was not wearing a helmet when he was killed in a wreck that also involved an 18-wheeler and a passenger car.
Hays County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Beth Smith pronounced Driskill dead at the scene, city spokesman Jerry Hendrix said in a statement.
The fatal wreck occurred at about 9:15 p.m. near the 217-mile marker on the southbound lanes of the interstate. The freeway was shutdown for about six hours in Kyle last Friday night and into early Saturday morning as police investigated and worked the accident.
Traffic was diverted off the interstate and into its access road from the 217-mile marker south to an area near the 210-mile marker as exit and entrance ramps allowed, Hendrix said.
As of Monday morning, investigators had not determined the cause of the accident. Several law enforcement agencies responded to assist with the wreck, including Kyle Police Department (KPD), Kyle Fire Department (KFD), Hays County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Hendrix said.
The License and Weight division of DPS conducted an investigation into the 18-wheeler’s involvement. Results of that investigation are still pending, Hendrix said.
Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call KPD at (512) 268-3232.
