It is truly unfortunate that the few vibrant businesses in downtown Buda are forced to constantly defend themselves to certain vocal residents and some members of the City Council. Buda is more family-friendly than ever, meaning there are choices for EVERY member of EVERY family, not only those with small children and not only the retired folks. More revenue is being generated than ever including the very tax revenue that is helping make Buda and Hays County such an attractive place to live and drawing new residents young, old and in between.
I recently learned that the supporters of at least one council candidate were being referred to as ‘the liquor and noise ordinance lobby’. What in the world does that even mean? That’s absolutely nothing but fear-mongering and inflammatory. The ‘liquor lobby’ won two years ago when Buda residents voted by an overwhelming majority to allow businesses to have mixed beverage permits (meaning bars). There’s no further need for that lobby, the people spoke very clearly. And those who recognize that the current unstudied, unenforceable and unreasonable noise ordinance requires attention have hardly formed a lobby, though it may come to that if a voter referendum becomes necessary.
Please, please, please, council, can you actually listen to the people who live here and represent ALL of their voices rather than vote according to your personal preferences and misplaced sense of moral righteousness?
