Staff report
Updated 2:35 p.m. Oct. 3:
Repairs are now complete on the 16-inch water main break at Kyle Parkway, according to Kyle spokesperson Jerry Hendrix. But the affected businesses are being asked to boil water until the results of a water sample test come back from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), which should be by 5 p.m. Saturday.
“It’s just precautionary, but better safe than sorry,” Hendrix said in a phone interview.
Hendrix said he was notified at 9:30 a.m. about the break. Repairs were completed by about 1:30 p.m. Hendrix said Chase and Wells Fargo banks were among the affected businesses that were without water.
Original story:
A water main break near Kyle Parkway has several restaurants closed down, or partially closed, possibly for a few hours. The city of Kyle confirmed its water crews are working to fix it.
The break occurred between about 9 and 9:30 a.m. when contractors nearby hit a water main and ruptured it.
Several restaurants are either closed or running drive-thru only services. For example, Chick Fil-A is running drive-through only, according to Manager Brett Husband. He said they bought a lot of bottled water once they found out about the issue and are continuing to offer limited service, no dine-in, until the problem is fixed. He said employees are still following all sanity procedures, which includes using bottled water for hand washing.
McDonald’s and What-a-Burger are closed, according to employees at both locations. Jesse Torres, a manager at Whataburger, said city officials told him around 10 a.m. this morning the repairs could take between four and eight hours.
Patrons are advised to call ahead to see if restaurants and area businesses are open.
