Judith Waller Tuttle, long-time Hays CISD employee, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014, in Oceanside, California. Judee, 73, held several jobs in the district from 1977 until her retirement in 2004, including substitute teaching, attendance clerk and secretary for Career and Technology Education.
She is survived by her son William (Bobby) Tuttle and daughter-in-law Kelly Shook of Oceanside, as well as sisters Janice Ruhl and Jacque Woodward, both of Colorado. Judee is also survived by two beloved sisters of her husband. They live in South Texas. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews in Colorado, Utah, Maryland and Texas
Judee was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Tuttle who died in November 2001, as well as by her brother James Waller and an infant daughter.
Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Judee moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, before she started grade school. She grew up in Colorado Springs and went to work for the Air Force after high school. She was particularly proud of working at Ent AFB. She attended Colorado Technical College in Colorado Springs two years and met her husband Bill while he was stationed at Fort Carson during the Vietnam War. .
Judee hated Texas when she first moved here, but it grew on her. As time went by, she had her family and grew to love the state. She later refereed to it as “my Texas’ when talking to her sisters in Colorado. Even after Bill died in 2001, she did not want to leave home – Central Texas, but she moved to Utah and then to California to be near Bobby and Kelly in 2010.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in San Marcos and then the Grace Lutheran Church in Sandy, Utah.
A reception and memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Old City Hall in Kyle.
