In a Texas-style twist, the victim of a home burglary on Oct. 4 was arrested after brandishing a firearm during a confrontation with suspects in a public parking lot.
Shaune Christopher Maycock, 37, of Kyle was arrested for Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, a Class A misdemeanor. Maycock was booked into the Hays County Jail on Oct. 4. He was released on Oct. 5 on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond.
On Thursday, Kyle Police arrested one of three suspects, Nikolai Marquis Bunton, 18, of Kyle, on burglary of a habitation and burglary of a vehicle charges. Bunton is being held in the Hays County Jail on $20,000 bond.
The incident occurred on Oct. 4, when Maycock’s home in the Waterleaf subdivision was burglarized.
According to Kyle Police Criminal Investigations Division (CID) Sgt. Jacob Luria, Maycock began to call area pawn shops after realizing yard equipment had been stolen.
He contacted the owners of M&M Pawn, which is located less than three miles from the subdivision. The owners informed Maycock that two individuals were attempting to pawn items similar to what was stolen.
Maycock drove to the M&M Pawn shop and confronted the suspects in the parking lot. He then pulled out a handgun, forcing the suspects to flee. No shots were fired.
Luria said the department investigated the burglary following Maycock’s arrest. They obtained still photos of two of the suspects, and disseminated them to the public on Thursday.
“The response we started getting was immediate, from the schools and the public,” Luria said.
According to Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett, Bunton arrived at the department at 5:30 p.m. that day. After meeting with detectives, Bunton was placed under arrest.
Two additional suspects, including one whose photo was shown, have been identified. Their identities have yet to be released, as an investigation is ongoing.
Kyle Police has interviewed one suspect, with Luria expecting charges to be filed against them.
