Council candidates are out visiting voters, and all seem to be in support of the upcoming bond package.
There are a lot of reasons to vote FOR the Buda bonds. There are five different propositions on the ballot – and all five, from new municipal buildings to streets, drainage and parks and trails, are much needed for this growing town.
The propositions were unanimously approved by a citizens committee, the Buda Bond Advisory Committee. The team reviewed city plans that had been developed over many years – from 2011 to 2014 – including the comprehensive plan, parks and rec plan, facilities plan, downtown plan and more. It just makes sense to get the projects so needed underway while the economy is robust.
Sure, it is a large bond package – at $55 million. But these projects have been needed for many years. Think back to the Halloween floods. There was flooding everywhere – in Oxbow, Lifshutz, the Fire department on FM 2770. Drainage improvements are needed for public safety. Streets need repair, the police station needs more than its current makeshift facility, which doesn’t even have private rooms to interview victims. The city is busting out of the seams, and the library has outgrown its walls, harking back to the days when films for children were shown down the aisles as the lights were turned off.
What would it cost? The average taxable home of $173,000 could see an increase of about $138 per year – at current rates if there isn’t really growth. But, if Buda grows as it has in the past five years, the taxes will be much lower. Vote yes for the future of Buda.
