The holiday season is quickly approaching and for many of us, that means special meals! The Buda Public Library has lots of cookbooks for those of us who are looking for something new to try.
If you’re looking for new ways to prepare vegetables, take a look at Plenty and Plenty More by Yotam Ottolenghi, the chef/owner of several restaurants in London. These beautiful books are full of recipes that treat vegetables as the stars of the dinner table and turn them into fancy fare. Each recipe includes a note about the recipe or the ingredients, a list of the ingredients and instructions for preparation. Many also include full page pictures of the mouthwatering finished dishes.
Want to know the “why” behind the recipe? Try any of the Good Eats books by Alton Brown. These books are companions to the outstanding “Good Eats” show and are arranged by episode. It includes the recipes, tips and information about the science of cooking. This series is great for beginning cooks that need step-by-step instructions and want to learn how cooking actually works.
If you need a recipe for a specific holiday, look at The Pioneer Woman Cooks: A Year of Holidays by Ree Drummond. This book is organized by holiday or event and includes both meals and desserts or treats. It even has ideas for how to dress up the leftovers. I’m very interested in trying the Dr. Pepper cupcakes!
