The Lehman Lobos garnered their first win of the year Tuesday in a 59-53 win over the Austin Travis Rebels. The Lobos put in their dominating performance over the Rebels at Lobo Gym.
The Lobos played aggressively throughout the game, diving for loose balls and responding to Rebel attacks mounted against them. Lehman maintained control of the pace of the game for most of the matchup.
Lehman led 27-22 at halftime.
The Lobos defended the basket aggressively during the third quarter. They fought for loose balls and relentlessly accosted the Rebels side of the court.
Lehman’s defense held the Rebels to only five points during the period. The Lobo offense scored 16 points during the quarter, giving Lehman a 43-27 lead to start the fourth period.
The Rebel offense surged in the fourth quarter, outscoring Lehman 26-16. However, the lead that the Lobos had built going into the fourth quarter was enough to secure the first victory of the season.
Lobo Head Coach Thomas Acker said that the Lobos need to work on executing their game plan better as well as improving their free throw percentage.
Robert Salinas led the scoring for the Lobos with 19 points. Travis’ Eric Strait led the Rebels with 16 points.
