The Lehman Lady Lobos couldn’t gain any momentum during their first game of 2015 as they fell to the Anderson Lady Trojans 74-54 Friday at the Lobo Den.
Lehman senior Angel Cruz led the team with 14 points, followed by Lauren Fowler who had 12 points and Starr Rivers with 11 points. But Anderson’s Kennedy Harris scored a game-high 25 points, while Laurel Kriesel-Bigler had 14 points.
Until the halftime whistle blew, the Lady Lobos had the Lady Trojans within reach. Despite some issues with slow passes that were stolen by the Trojans, Lehman only trailed 32-27 at halftime.
During the second half of the game, the Lady Lobos played the game at Anderson’s pace. Rather than driving the ball, the Lobos were taking and missing far too many outside shots and not capitalizing on rebounds or free throws.
Anderson took advantage, expanding its lead to 54-42 after three quarters.
Lehman’s struggles continued into the fourth quarter, as Lehman went 2 of 10 from the free throw line. The Lady Lobos also came up short under the rim, allowing Anderson to obtain multiple second-chance scoring opportunities.
Lehman head coach Jamie Coy said the key to victory for the next game would be for the Lobos to capitalize on, as well as not give up on, the second option after their transitions, focusing on cleaning up around the basket and playing Lobo style by shooting in the 30-40 percentile and driving better shot selection.
The Lady Lobos will host Westlake on Friday. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
