Just before beginning her sophomore year at Hays High this school year, Kylee Bruner was off in South Texas enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Bruner, who last summer filmed a television show that chronicled her “once-in-a-lifetime” outdoor experience down on the Lower Laguna Madre, will debut on national TV on Feb. 9.
The TV show is called “Majesty Outdoors” and its sixth season airs nationally on the Destination America channel. The show’s seventh episode of the sixth season, which features Bruner in South Texas, is scheduled to air at 6 a.m. on Feb. 9, according to the show’s website (Time Warner Cable channel 135).
Bruner was nominated and selected to film the show, which led her to South Texas last June.
This season of “Majesty Outdoors” features ten different teenagers from locations ranging from the Upper Laguna Madre, TX to Islamorada, FL, according to a show news release.
The sixth season began with an adventure in the Florida Keys, where siblings Hector and Keishla enjoyed their surroundings both on and off the shore. The two-part episode featured the release of a rehabilitated turtle from the Marathon Turtle Hospital; it also included activities like tarpon fishing, backcountry fishing in the Everglades National Park and an offshore trip aboard the Catch 22 with Captain Scott Stanczyk.
After six seasons of “Majesty Outdoors,” more than 40 teens who have been featured on the show, of which 16 have been awarded a scholarship. Bruner’s mother told the Hays Free Press that the teen has gained a scholarship for appearing on the show.
According to the show’s news release, every teen who appears on “Majesty Outdoors” is eligible to receive a scholarship to further his/her education beyond high school.
“This demonstrates not only our long term commitment to these teenagers, but also our strong desire to stand in the gap and support them in their efforts to improve their situation in life,” the show said in a statement.
The show’s mission is to expose fatherless teens to the great outdoors, providing them a message of hope, trust and the beauty of nature outside their normal environment. “Majesty Outdoors” focuses on children who have lost their father due to death, divorce, incarceration or many other reasons.
The show also manages Generation Outdoors, a community based mentor-equipping program that partners with local churches to train and equip those interested in mentoring fatherless children in their communities.
Bruner’s episode will air on different channels (Time Warner Sports Channel, Pursuit Channel, Destination America) and at different times all next week, Feb. 9-15. Be sure to tune in to find out what adventures Bruner experienced in South Texas.
