Three-year Hays CISD school board member and current president Robert Limon announced Monday he would not seek reelection to his seat this May.
“It was a tough decision to make,” Limon said in a written statement. “But with recent changes in my work responsibilities, and my family commitments, it would be difficult to dedicate the time our community deserves from its school board members.”
Limon was elected to the school board in 2012 and has served as vice-president and president in his one term.
“I will miss working with my fellow citizens, helping enrich the educational experiences for the students in our district,” the statement said. “Together as a group, we hired a new superintendent who has brought more accountability to our school district. We also passed a $59 million school bond that will build a new middle school to alleviate overcrowding, enhances the use of technology for our students, and that makes our existing schools safer.”
Limon also led the effort to establish an internal audit program in the district.
“The audit program is a long-term investment that will ensure that we are operating the district in the most efficient and economical manner possible,” he said in the statement. “The greater transparency in how we govern the district, also increases public participation, builds trust, and promotes the effective use of our tax dollars.”
Limon will continue to serve until his term ends in May.
“I don’t rule out serving on the board again, I just won’t be a candidate this year,” he wrote. “It has been an honor to serve the students and staff of Hays CISD and I look forward to staying involved in our community in other ways.”
