A 14-month-old boy was unharmed Monday after the child exited a Kyle daycare facility and was unattended for a brief period of time in the parking lot.
The incident occurred at the Open Arms Early Learning Center on Rebel Road in Kyle.
According to Kyle Chief of Staff Jerry Hendrix, the child left the facility after a parent that had entered the building had not properly closed the door. Staff at the Learning Center noticed within seconds that the door was open. However, by the time they reacted, the child had already exited the facility and was in the parking lot.
Within that short time frame, Hendrix said a passer by driving on Rebel Road noticed the unattended child in the parking lot and called police. Upon arrival, a Kyle Police officer found the child had been retrived by staff and was taken back inside of the facility. The child was unharmed.
Hendrix said the facility has filed a report to Child Protective Services regarding the incident, as per protocol.
The Kyle Police Department is currently reviewing the officer’s report to see if any charges will be filed.
Hendrix said no determination has been made by Kyle Police at this time.
