Updated information on Hays County flood recovery:
The City of San Marcos is consolidating all helpful info COUNTYWIDE at this location: www.sanmarcostx.gov/smtxflood It is filled with great info about relief efforts, health and safety, fraud, etc. and is being updated as the situation changes, not just for San Marcos but for Wimberley and the rest of the county.
Need food, shelter, clothing, etc?
If you or someone you know was affected by high wind, tornadoes or flood beginning May 24 and need immediate assistance with food, clothing, shelter, cleaning supplies, etc., visit one of these locations:
Wimberley: 211 Stillwater, Cypress Creek Church, and Wimberley High School, 8am-5pm.
San Marcos: 200 Springtown Way, Suite 150 (FRONT of building) and 206 CM Allen Pkwy (Old Fish Hatchery), 8am-5pm.
Hotline: 512-754-2275 for any questions about the flood/storm relief effort, anyone who needs help, etc.
Continuing on Monday in San Marcos at St. John’s Catholic Church, 624 E. Hopkins (across from Activity Center), many relief agencies will be gathered from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to make it easier to get help. (This same event was staged in Wimberley Fri-Sat and in SM on Sunday).
These relief agencies are also opening their doors to flood/storm victims in Blanco and Caldwell Counties, as those areas were also affected. However, only HAYS County residents (in cities or unincorporated area) who were affected can currently apply for federal assistance (see how at below).
Want to volunteer?
Anyone wanting to volunteer to help residents should sign up at the Cypress Creek Church, 211 Stillwater, Wimberley or in San Marcos at 206 CM Allen Pkwy (Old Fish Hatchery), 8am-5pm both places.
Donations:
Only accepting NEW items (no time/staff to sort).
Donations which are being distributed COUNTYWIDE (no storage in Wimberley so we are trucking items there as needed) should be dropped off at the loading dock at 200 Springtown Way (old Target).
To Donate NEW items: 200 Springtown Way, Suite 150 (BACK of building at loading dock of big box store). Especially needed now are First Aid Kits, heavy electrical cords, work gloves, cleaning supplies, dish soap. This large donation center is also the staging area to take relief supplies to Wimberley as Wimberley does not have a large storage area, so trucks are taking supplies as the relief centers there need them.
Curfew:
Until further notice there is a curfew in effect 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for these roads for non-residents: Fischer Store Road, RR 12 Blanco River Bridge, Flite Acres Road, Deer Crossing, River Road and Haschke Road, all in the Wimberley area.
Burning debris:
Info on how/when to burn debris piles and what you should/should not burn is on the county facebook page at www.facebook.com/hayscountytexas for anyone who needs it.
Traffic/travel:
RR 12 bridge into Wimberley is one lane with a timed traffic signal. Expect significant backups. Take an alternate route:
The traffic from San Marcos to Wimberley has increased dramatically. The bridge at the Blanco River has been closed to one lane, alternating traffic flow, with a timed light. This has caused incredible delays into and out of Wimberley. Please use alternative routes to the affected areas. The following are suggestions:
From the Kyle/Buda area:
· IH 35 to FM 150 West
· 150 W to FM 3237
· FM 3237 to RR 12
From the Austin/Dripping Springs area:
· Hwy 290 West into Dripping Springs
· Hwy 290 to RR 12 to Wimberley
