Kyle police arrested a man early Sunday morning after he allegedly held up two Kyle residents at gunpoint and attempted to flee from law enforcement, according to a statement by Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett.
Jonathan Craig Delgado, 22, of Kyle was apprehended following a vehicle chase by police.
Barnett said officers responded to a call from the the area of the 200 block of Goddard at 11:17 p.m. Saturday for an armed robbery report. While en route, the Kyle 911 dispatch advised officers that a Hispanic male wearing a white shirt and dark pants approached a female victim.
“He said he had a weapon and asked for money,” the statement said.
Barnett said the subject then ran on foot toward Stennis.
The female victim who spoke with a Kyle police officer said the suspect had a small black handgun.
A second call came in for armed robbery in the 100 block of Tower.
“Dispatch advised the suspect left on foot traveling on New Country toward FM 150,” the statement said.
The victim in the second armed robbery told police the suspect was wearing a white shirt, dark pants and a black mask.
Barnett said his officers were en route when a possible suspect vehicle description was called in to the 911 dispatch center.
“It was described as a black Honda Velocitor,” according to the statement.
That’s when Kyle police officers observed the vehicle attempting to leave the area at a high rate of speed.
“The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, which disregarded the emergency lights and fled the scene,” Barnett said.
At that point, he said the driver, who was considered the suspect in two armed robberies, tried to drive his car across an open field.
“The vehicle became damaged and the suspect was apprehended without incident,” Barnett said. “A loaded handgun used by the suspect and personal items belonging to the two robbery victims were located at the scene. Officers also located Xanax bars in the vehicle.”
Delgado was booked into the Hays County Jail and charged with aggravated robbery, possession of a controlled substance and evading with a vehicle, according to Barnett.
According to jail records, he remains in the Hays County Jail on $23,000 in bonds.
