Staff Report
A Houston man working construction succumbed to his injuries, following a fall from the third story of a building on July 4.
According to the Kyle Police Department, Gabriel Palacios, 53, was working on the third flood of new apartments at 4925 Cromwell Drive, near FM 1626 and Kohler’s Crossing, when he fell.
Co-worker Cesar Ruiz told police he and Palacios were working together. “Ruiz told [our officers] he and Palacios were … placing wooden rail on the ceiling when Palacios fell,” Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said.
Ruiz told police he immediately called for help. The call came in at 11:20 a.m.
Kyle Fire Department Chief Kyle Taylor said firefighters and the San Marcos Hays County EMS arrived within minutes.
“Palacios was conscious and complaining of back pain,” Taylor said.
Within five minutes, he said EMS transported Palacios to Seton Medical Center Brackenridge, a trauma center, in Austin.
Taylor and Barnett confirmed Palacios later died.
His daughter, Maira Mayorga, said of her father, “He was born in Matamoros, Mexico and later came to the USA in search of the American dream; we can say that he fulfilled his dream and accomplished a lot more. He was a humble, loving, caring, soul that had always a way to make you love him instantly. His family was always a priority for him.”
