Now in his third year as Hays CISD Superintendent, Mike McKie’s contract was approved by the board of trustees earlier this summer following an evaluation by the Hays CISD Board of Trustees. His new employee period is from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2018 and can be extended by the board at that time.
McKie’s compensation for his position is $210,000 annually. When hired in May 2013, the board approved his salary at $190,000. He also received an increase during his second year in the position.
According to the contract, if the Hays CISD Board of Trustees implements a widespread salary reduction under Texas Education Code section 21.4023, the superintendent’s salary will be reduced by the percent or fraction of a percent that is equal to the percent or fraction of a percent by which teacher salaries have been reduced.
His benefits for medical insurance are the same as for other district employees. He also is eligible to receive reimbursement costs for travel, training and other professional development as well as for dues for belonging to a professional organization.
In his role as the Hays CISD superintendent, McKie has sole discretion, subject to budget approval, in the hiring, employment and termination of all non contract employees.
Board members are not legally allowed to discuss any aspect of the superintendent’s evaluation therefore Board President Merideth Keller was unable to comment on this story.
