As citizens come to grips with the loss of their trees in so many areas, making something positive out of them is wonderful. (Hays Free Press, Aug. 26)
On the subject of trees, the City of Kyle is in the process of actually lowering standards for bulldozing down them. Currently any tree 28 inches in circumference or smaller can be bulldozed down. Planning and Zoning members want it to be raised to 36 inches in circumference which will allow almost all trees located on Opal, Rowland and Stagecoach roads to be removed. All new developments will have an easier time removing trees and building more homes per acre. To make matters even worse water lines can be installed on Opal Lane under their wording of “orderly, safe, attractive and healthful development of land located within the community.”
The Hays Historical Commission is asking for old photos of trees and roads. I’m asking them and area citizens to video tape Opal, Rowland and Stagecoach roads before those historical roads and trees are taken down. Won’t that be a great project for an area high school photography class!
