Kelton Reynolds (78) went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 21, 2015.
Kelton is preceded by his wife, Mickey Sue “Mouse” Reynolds; mother and father, William and Minnie Reynolds; sister, Imogene Clark Reynolds.
Kelton is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Reynolds; step-children, Mark (Grace) Timmons and Tammy (Dennis) Pessoa; grandchildren, Mekenzy and Kelsey Timmons and Ryan Pessoa; his brother, Bill (Joyce) Reynolds; his nephew and niece, Dale Reynolds and Vickie (Dennis) Stotts of Georgia; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of West Virginia.
Kelton grew up in Austin (Hyde Park) and was the son of an independent grocery man. He graduated from McCallum High School where he was instrumental in nominating and naming the school colors blue and grey, “Go Knights.” He studied piano at Texas School of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin (U.T.) under Miram Gorden Landrum and voice under George Moody. Kelton also studied drama at U.T. under B. Iden Payne who also taught Jayne Mansfield and Fess Parker.
As a youngster, Kelton sold soda pop at U.T. football games where all-time great Bobby Layne would allow him to carry his helmet off the field to the locker room. Small wonder that the Longhorns were his favorite team! His idol, Bobby Layne once told Kelton, “Boy, your hair is redder than mine!”
Reynolds proudly served six years in the U.S. Navy servicing submarines for four years until an accident in Pearl Harbor whereupon he serviced a destroyer. He sailed all of the Western Pacific and beyond. In civilian life, he worked in elevator construction and owned Travis County Pest Control.
Kelton’s greatest fortune in life came when he met and married the love of his life, Mickey Sue Reynolds whom he affectionately nicknamed “Mouse.” The Mouse led Kelton to Jesus Christ. Kelton was ordained as a deacon and held many leadership roles in the Baptist Church. He was a member of Hays Hills Baptist Church. Kelton was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8787 and the Civil War Trust for Preservation of Civil War Battlefields.
