September is Library Card Sign-Up Month! In 1987, then Secretary of Education William J. Bennett said “Let’s have a national campaign … every child should obtain a library card – and use it.” The American Library Association’s Library Card Sign-up Month is one way that libraries work to achieve that goal. Of course, library usage isn’t limited to children; everyone in our community has access to the great resources available here!
There are so many things you can do with your library card. Here are some that you might not have known about:
• Listen to a college course with our Great Courses collection.
• Learn how to make your own journal or book, both miniature and full-sized.
• Learn the basics of using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or After Effects.
• Take a course in stress management, landscaping, or dog psychology.
• Watch videos that cover a wide variety of DIY home improvement tasks.
• Travel to new worlds, live new lives, and experience the impossible! (Metaphorically.)
Who can get a library card at the Buda Public Library? All Hays County residents can get a free card here. We’ll need to see a picture ID and proof of residency. Kids and teens under 16 years old will need to bring a parent or guardian with them. With this card, patrons can check out books, audio books, movies and more from the library. Or, if you can’t get to the library, we have tons of books, audio books, magazines, classes, and databases that can be accessed from home, school, or anywhere with an Internet connection!
