All three Buda City Council candidates running for the Buda Place 3 seat – Basil Lombardo, incumbent Jose Montoya and David Nuckels – were given questions about their intentions for running for office and other issues. Below are the responses from David Nuckels. Click here to see Jose Montoya’s responses. Click here to see Basil Lombardo’s responses.
1. What prompted you to seek office?
I heard from our many friends and neighbors in Buda, that they were not satisfied with some of the current city council representatives and they felt their voices were not being heard. I am running with the goal of representing all the people of Buda, listening to their concerns and working to address them.
2. What are Buda’s three most important issues and how do you plan on addressing them, if elected?
1) Water – I plan to review ALL available options to ensure Buda Citizens for years to come have adequate, sustainable and safe water supplies.
2) Growth – Buda is in a sweet spot geographically and our growth is on track to continue for many years. As a City Councilman, I would work with City Staff, County and other City Officials, to focus on responsible growth by ensuring all infrastructure needs are included in the planning process.
3) Keeping the Buda we love – Folks have chosen to move to Buda or stay in Buda for many different reasons, one such reason I have heard over and over on the campaign trail is preserving the small town charm. This is very important to me as well. The growth will continue but as a City Councilman, I would work to protect the things that make Buda special.
3. What one issue is not being talked about, but should be?
As we see every day, Buda is growing. There is tremendous potential for all types of businesses in our city and amazing opportunity for entrepreneurs to set up shop here and be very successful. I would like to focus on expanding economic development with small businesses and local entrepreneurs as mentioned in the Buda Economic Development Strategic Plan.
4. What specific practices will you implement to keep in contact with constituents, if elected?
I will continue to engage citizens via Facebook and other social media as well as proactively reaching out to citizens for input via online surveys, and set a regularly scheduled time to meet with citizens out in the community.
