Lehman High School’s three performing Mariachi groups – Luz de Luna, Azul y Plata, and Los Lobos – performed a rousing finale to the Fifth Annual Dia de los Muertos Extravaganza. Mariachi instructor Joseph Baird’s students will soon be on its way to San Antonio’s 21st annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza, where they’ll join over 1,000 mariachi students in mariachi music workshops, performances, competitions, concerts, jam sessions, and other cultural events. Setting the stage for their older counterparts at the Dia de los Muertos Extravaganza were hundreds of talented Chapa, Wallace, and Simon Middle School mariachi students which included (CMS) Director Carlos Maldonado’s Juvenil de Armando Chapa, (WMS) Director Yvonne Vasquez’s Mariachi del Campo, and (SMS) Director Frank Deleon’s Mariachi Comperos de Simon.
