Westlake Chaparral quarterback and University of Texas at Austin commitment Sam Ehlinger brought Lehman’s bid for a win to a rapid close Friday at Chaparral Stadium.
A trio of Ehlinger passing touchdowns scored within the first nine minutes of the game allowed Westlake to gain separation as it cruised to a 66-14 win.
Friday’s loss marked the first time in program history Lehman (0-10, 0-8) finishes a season winless. Lehman’s loss marks their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season.
Westlake’s offense, led by Ehlinger, outgained the Lobos 456-153 in total offensive yards. Ehlinger, who did not throw an interception all season, continued that trend Friday. He went 10 of 13 for 238 yards and four passing touchdowns. He also added 51 yards rushing on six carries Friday.
Chaparral senior wide receiver Chase Cokely led Westlake with 150 receiving yards on five receptions. Three of his five receptions were touchdowns.
Lehman’s offense was led by quarterback Jacob Zamora, who threw for 74 yards on 5 of 18 passing with a touchdown and an interception. Wide receiver Tyler Henderson led Lehman with 67 yards on three receptions.
After breaking out for over 100 yards rushing last week, Lobo running back Bryan Mendoza was held to only 28 yards on 16 carries by Westlake’s defense. Mendoza scored a touchdown in the game.
It took Westlake less than three minutes to tally its first score. A 38-yard touchdown pass from Ehlinger to wide receiver Reed Klubnick gave Westlake a 7-0 lead.
The Chaparrals padded their lead, as Ehlinger found Cokely for back-to-back touchdowns over Westlake’s next two offensive drives.
Westlake held a 21-0 lead late in the first quarter before the Lobos responded back in a big way.
After a 40 yard kickoff return by Mendoza, Zamora followed by tossing a 48-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Chastin Evans on the ensuing play.
Lehman cut Westlake’s lead to 21-7. Westlake countered by tallying two more touchdowns before the end of the first quarter.
Westlake’s 14-point flurry was highlighted by a 56-yard touchdown pass from Ehlinger to Cokely.
The Chaparrals led 35-7 after the first 12 minutes of play. They added ten more points before halftime to take a 45-7 lead at intermission.
Lehman’s deficit widened to 59-7 after three quarters before the Lobos scored their final points of the season.
A seven yard touchdown run by Mendoza in the fourth quarter capped an eight play, 75-yard drive.
