A crew from the City of Kyle Public Works Department is on scene repairing a water main break near the intersection of N.Burleson and the new Marketplace Ave. extension.
Public Works Director Harper Wilder said the construction crew building the new road hit a water main and ruptured it, causing a leak. The volume of lost water is not known at this time.
“Our crew is shutting down valves and has the leak under control,” Wilder said. “Over the next few hours they will repair the water main.”
Residents are advised to conserve water for the next several hours and may experience disruptions in service as the line is being repaired.
“We appreciate the help and patience of our residents as we fix the issue,” Wilder said.
The city’s Division Manager – Treatment, Jason Biemer, said while he does not think the system was compromised, he is issuing boil water notice out of an abundance of caution.
Kyle residents who live in the mapped area (see attachment with this release) should boil any water they use for drinking, ice making, eating and bathing until further notice.
In addition, this leak affected the Kyle McDonald’s restaurant on the IH-35 access road, but no other businesses or eateries in that area are connected to that same water line.
“Their water is back on but the boil water notice extends to that eatery,” Biemer said.
The boil water notice is in effect from 3:30 p.m. Dec. 4, 2015, until the laboratory samples confirm the absence of bacteria in the drinking water.
