Two off-duty Kyle Police Department officers who were working at EVO Entertainment on Dec. 19 arrested two people suspected of car burglary in the theater parking lot.
According to a city of Kyle press release, the off-duty officers arrested Monica Lee Garcia, 21, and Frank Angel Ybarra, 28, of Houston. Both suspects were charged with three counts of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and transported to the Hays County Jail. Garcia was released on Dec. 20 on $12,000 bond.
Ybarra’s charges, according to the release, were enhanced due to having previous convictions of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. Ybarra was released on Dec. 20 on $15,000.
According to the release, a call came in at around 6:16 p.m. on Dec. 19. Officers Jonathan Akers and David Saenz heard a dispatch call of a possible physical disturbance in the EVO parking lot that may have started over a burglary.
The altercation, accoridng to the release, began when the owner of a vehicle found Ybarra in her van. When confronted, Ybarra returned the items and offered money so the vehicle owner wouldn’t call police.
Officers checked the parking lot and observed a vehicle matching the description given by the witnesses. The officers stopped the vehicle and detained the two individuals.
Both were questioned about the disturbance and allegations of burglary. Officers located stolen items in the suspect’s vehicle. The suspects then admitted to burglarizing other vehices.
Kyle Police Department recommends locking vehicles at all times and keeping any valuables out of view.
“We encourage everyone to keep vehicle doors locked, whether at home or while out and about town,” Chief Jeff Barnett said in a statement. “It’s also best to not keep valuables in your vehicle, or at least put them out of sight.”
