The Lehman Lobos and Bowie Bulldogs opened up district play for baseball Tuesday night at Lobo Field.
Bowie didn’t score many runs, but they didn’t need to as two Bulldog pitchers combined for a no-hitter against Lehman en route to a 3-0 win.
Lehman’s Zack Sendejo said he has never played a game in his life where he and his teammates have been no-hit.
“It hurts a lot. We just didn’t have good at bats, especially me,” Sendejo said.
Bulldogs’ pitcher Noah Walker was in control from the beginning of the game. He only pitched five innings, but Walker struck out 11 of the 21 batters he faced. Walker finished with four walks and two hit batters, but he and his defense behind him never gave up a hit.
Lobos starting pitcher Braden Sullins also had a strong outing Tuesday as he threw plenty of strikes. But Bowie hitters got hot in the third inning and put up two runs after three consecutive hard hit balls to the outfield.
Sullins went 6 and 1/3 innings and finished with five strikeouts, but he settled down after giving up the two runs.
Both defenses played very well, and neither team had a single error in the game.
Lehman had its chances on offense, but failed to put the ball in play, leaving six runners on base throughout the game.
Bowie had six hits, which produced its three runs, but also left four players on base, including several on third base.
Walker got the win for the Bulldogs, but his relief pitcher Cole Brooks came in and made quick work of the Lobo hitters.
Brooks came in in the sixth inning and wasted no time in striking out the first three batters he faced. He then struck out two of the three hitters in the seventh frame, finishing with five strikeouts.
The Lobos will gear up and prepare for the Comal ISD Tournament in New Braunfels, which starts Thursday and continue throughout the weekend.
