With almost seventy students competing, Hays High School’s Art Department had a very good showing at this year’s VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event). Almost all of the HHS artists (above) scored a 4, the event’s highest score. Students with a score of four went on to a second round of judging and five of the Hays group were selected to advance to VASE State competition later this spring. The State-qualifiers include Avery Stewart (Drawing), Malyne Wilkins (Drawing), Ryan Peed (Drawing), Marisa Ramirez (Drawing), and Neely Kirkland (Sculpture).
Below, the Lehman High School Art Department students also had an outstanding showing in 2016 at the VASE competition, many of whom received 4s. Lobo honorees were from the students in Alicia Guerrero’s and Debra Flynn’s art classes.
Bottom left are winning entries from Hays High students that will compete at the State competition.
