A vicious dog was shot by a Kyle police officer midday Saturday in the HEB parking lot.
The Kyle police department recieved a call at 1:20 p.m. about a dog that was loose and seemed vicious said Kyle communications specialist Kim Hilsenbeck.
A Kyle police officer was sent to investigate since one animal control officer was not in the area and the other was off duty, she said.
The officer tried to restain the dog but the dog tried to attack the officer, who then fired two shots, she said. Initially the dog was thought to be alive but later died at a local veterinarian office.
The dog was a German Shepard and may have gotten loose from vaccination clinic nearby, Hilsenbeck said.
She said one person who reported the dog said it was starting fights with other dogs.
An animal control officer is currently en route to the veterinarian, she said. The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
