After returning from vacation and catching up on the Hays Free Press issues, I am outraged and saddened by the “Top Salaries in the area” article.
I find it reprehensible that the administrators of Hays CISD are paid 2,3 and 4 times what long-term teachers are paid.
Yes, administrators work more weeks of the year …. but you cannot tell me that they put in more hours in a year than a dedicated teacher. They do not have the daily challenges of classroom teachers. They do not always have more degrees than classroom teachers. They are not evaluated based on something as ridiculous as standardized test scores. (BTW, how are the administrators evaluated?)
A school district’s bottom line should be educating the students/meeting their needs. Who does that best? The teachers in the classrooms with the students. Who should earn the most dollars in the industry? The teachers.
I continue to hope that some day, the Hays CISD makes things more equitable.
