Hays CISD to implement clear bag rule at football games

Safety considerations is driving Hays CISD to implement a clear bag requirement at Shelton Stadium this season.

Hays CISD will enact its new requirement Friday when Lehman High’s varsity football team hosts New Braunfels Canyon at 7:30 p.m.

Hays CISD’s requirement will limit the size and types of bags allowed at Shelton Stadium during games and events. A list of approved and not approved bags can be found here.

The move is similar to rule changes seen in multiple districts and stadiums across the area, including Austin and Lake Travis ISD, which also called for clear bags at football games this fall.

While the district will only enforce its clear bag requirement at football games this fall, it “could expand the practice to other Hays CISD venues at a later time,” said Tim Savoy, Hays CISD chief communications officer in a letter to parents.

“We know this change may cause minor inconveniences until people get used to the new rule,” Savoy said in the letter. “However, the district believes that it is necessary in the interest of continuously improving safety at school district facilities.”
