B.E. Varley (Gene), of Kyle was called home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, September
14, 2018. His final day on earth included prayer and music while surrounded by family and
friends.
He was born in Clarksville, Texas to George Edward and Doris May Varley on June 29, 1932.
Gene graduated from Manor High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to Janis Walker of
Austin, Texas in 1951. He retired in 1995 after working in the HVAC wholesale business for
over twenty years.
Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Janis, and joined in marriage once
again to a family friend of many years, Katherine Beaver of Elgin. He was blessed to be able to
play any string instrument and took pride in serving the Lord through his musical talents. Gene’s
three passions in life were God, family and music.
Gene is survived by his daughter Beth and her husband Kenny Cathcart; granddaughters,
Lanette and her husband Greg Cummings and Jamie Cathcart; three great-grandchildren,
Logan Hearon, Willow Filstrup and Carter Hearon. He is further survived by siblings Beverly
Rash and Dotti Enderle along with extended relatives and many friends.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 20, at Harrell
Funeral Home in Kyle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 21, at First Baptist Church, 104
S. San Marcos Street, Buda, Texas. Interment will follow at Kyle Cemetery.
The family rejoices knowing that Gene is now playing his golden instruments and singing
heavenly praises to the Lord.
