Both the unemployment rate and the number of claims for jobless benefits fell in July, according to figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) on Friday, Aug. 21.

Hays County and Kyle both saw decreases as well, with both staying under figures reported for the state as a whole.

Hays County’s July jobless rate was 7%, down from 7.7% in June, 11.8% in May and 12.8% in April. In March, before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was 3.9%, and it had been near that figure...
