BRYAN – Struggles in halting the state-ranked Manvel Mavericks Friday brought the Dripping Springs Tigers’ 2020 football campaign to a close.

Fourteen unanswered Manvel points in the final 12-plus minutes of the game allowed the Mavericks to score a 38-21 win over Dripping Springs at Merrill Green Stadium.

Dripping Springs snagged an early 7-3 first quarter lead when quarterback Austin Novosad tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Cameron O’Banan.

After a Manvel score, Dripping Springs countered with a five-yard touchdown run by running back Preston Alford to take a 14-10 lead.

Alford rushed for 126 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns in the game while Novosad went 12 of 34 for 214 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Dripping Springs countered with a one-yard touchdown run by Alford, which trimmed the Manvel lead to 24-21.

But Manvel sped away down the stretch with a pair of touchdowns to close the game.

Manvel quarterback Gabriel Larry went 12 of 19 for 181 yards and two touchdowns through the air Friday. Meanwhile, the Tiger defense struggled to contain Maverick running backs Jordon Vaughn and De’Monte Seymour who combined for 272 of Manvel’s 384 rushing yards and a trio of scores.
