Jeanie Teer Fuelberg, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and teacher left her loving family and friends on the afternoon of April 23, 2021 in the company of loved ones. Jeanie was a special person, loved everyone, loved life and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Jeanie was born in Jacksonville Texas to Evelyn (Boone) and Elliott Teer. She attended Kilgore College where she was a member of the Rangerettes and received her BS in Education from North Texas State University. Jeanie’s love of kids and teaching spanned over 20 years. From Andrews to Sunset Valley to Dripping Springs Elementary, Jeanie loved each one of her students unconditionally and often recounted stories of her teaching career.
On the day she moved with her daughter Jana to Austin for her first teaching position she met Ben Fuelberg. Less than a year later, they were married in the same room where they met. Jeanie, Jana and Ben lived in several Austin locations before moving to their home in Dripping Springs in 1979. Jeanie continued to commute to Sunset Valley Elementary School for several years before beginning her career at Dripping Springs Elementary School. She volunteered in the library, Helping Hands, and was a CASA volunteer for many years. The friendships she developed teaching and her friends in the church and her Emmaus group were among the most important in her life.
Jeanie is survived by her husband Ben, her daughter Jana Willis and husband Kent, her grandchildren Christopher, Preston and Sarah Willis, her brother Jack Teer and his wife Gena, her sister Linda Myers and her husband Gary, her brother-in-law Dan Dohanich and her brother in law Curtis Fuelberg and his wife Susan Griffith. She also leaves behind her close friends Vicky and Hank Shoopman and their children Alexander, Lauren, Katy and Anna as well as nieces, nephews and close friends and relatives who were special to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her in laws Ben and Evelyn Fuelberg, and her sister Carol Ann Dohanich.
For over 15 years, Jeanie successfully fought against diseases that ravaged her body. With the help of medical professionals, she was able to enjoy life with her family and friends for over a decade beyond expectations. The family wishes to acknowledge those dedicated professionals who contributed to her longer life. Doctors Jack Bissett, Darren Geyer, Jerry Hood, Ballijepalli Netaji, Erol Ozdil, and Srdan Verstovsek of MD Anderson who provided her life changing drug trials. Each treated her diseases with loving care and professionalism that let her enjoy many years of pleasure with her family and friends. There were many other doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and health professionals who made her life better and longer including Aubrey Stanley, Julie Huynh Lu, Sharon Bledsoe, Allison Pike, Karen Thomas, Rachel Ridley, Lakyn Evers, Kelley Morris, Mary Mann, Marci Landin, Brian Yeasley and many others so important and wonderful but too numerous to mention. Jeanie was very appreciative of everyone who gave so much effort on her behalf as is her family.
A celebration of Jeanie’s life will be held May 8 at 4 PM in the DS United Methodist Church.
Those attending can honor Jeanie by wearing masks and taking appropriate Covid precautions. Anyone wishing to honor her memory may make a donation to M D Anderson Cancer Center, CASA of Central Texas or to the charity of their choosing. Memorial Oaks Chapel of Brenham, Texas is in charge of arrangements.
