Hays CISD budgets $38 million for new Buda elementary

HAYS CISD — A new elementary school in Buda’s Sunfield development is scheduled to open in August 2022.

The Hays CISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a total budget of $38.48 million for construction with contractor Bartlett-Cocke. The school is expected to serve as many as 900 students with the average classroom size at 19 for pre-K through first grade and 28 for second through fifth grade classrooms.

Teachers can expect to see more planning rooms, staff restrooms, collaboration and life skills space at Sunfield Elementary compared to Uhland. The new school may have a smaller gym but it is projected to have a slightly larger library and dining areas, as well as a significantly larger administration space.
