Luther Benjamin Lipsey Jr. ( Benji ), 83, of Buda passed away peacefully on January 22, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. Benji was born in Longview, Texas to the late Luther and Althea Lipsey on October 1, 1938.
Benji went to Cisco High School and graduated in 1956. He went on to earn a physical education degree from West Texas State University. In 1961, he married Linda Adams and shortly afterwards he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Over the next five years, they were blessed with three daughters. He was an accomplished athlete from High School sports, football in the Army to an avid/scratch golfer. He worked in the oilfield services which took him to Odessa, Texas, Brookhaven, Mississippi, Anchorage, Alaska, and then back to Texas to the Houston area.
He married Elizabeth Dianne Young on February 24, 1996. He and Dianne were active members of First Baptist Church Houston for many years. In 2017, they retired to Buda, Texas where they are current members of First Baptist Church of Buda. They were very active in the church and community, volunteering with Meals on Wheels and other community projects. Together, Benji and Dianne have enjoyed four daughter, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Benji is survived by his wife Dianne Lipsey of Buda, daughters Angie and Mike Schultz of Sugarland, Debbie and Jimmy Baros of Blanco, Tammie and Michael Patek of Victoria, Dawn Balli of Buda, sister Lorelei and Dean Andrews of Buda, grandchildren Travis, Ashley, Kaleigh, Corryn, Carter, Breeann, Mikayla and Lola, 4 great grandsons and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Luther Benjamin Sr. and Althea Mae, brother Charles Leon and grandson Cameron Bourgeois.
To all who had the pleasure of meeting or spending time with Benji, he was a bright light and friend to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and acquaintances.
Visitation will be held at Harrell Funeral Home in Kyle on February 4th at 10:00 am. The burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the First Baptist Church of Buda.
